Replanting Our National Forests

A Tribute to John Denver

By Sheereen Othman | October 12, 2016

Today marks the anniversary of American musician, singer-songwriter, record producer, actor, environmentalist and humanitarian John Denver’s death nearly 10 years ago (Oct. 10, 1997).  Denver was a top-selling acoustic artist in the 1970s. In addition to music, Denver shared a passion for conservation and humanitarian efforts. He founded two environmental groups including Plant-it 2020 — a foundation dedicated to properly planting, maintaining and protecting as many indigenous trees as possible worldwide.  In memory of his lasting work, we’re sharing an early Plant Trees PSA featuring John Denver.

Wow so hard to pick a favorite. He was my favorite singer/songwriter. For Baby (for Bobby) hits me hard. All of his songs whether it be environmental, Christmas, or all around songs have a special meaning in my heart and soul.

John Denver was my favorite singer & soulmate. It felt as if all of his songs were written for me. I love so many of them but will choose Annie’s song as my favorite

There are so many but I have to say a little known song called Casey’s Last Ride, his voice in this was exceptional and showed so much emotion I can’t hardly think that it was very personal to him. Such a great singer and song writer as well as humanitarian. Love his contribution to the environment.

Rocky Mountain High is the song I most identify John Denver with. It was beautiful and peaceful just the way I perceived John Denver.

I adore ‘Wandering Soul’ and ‘Yellowstone’, but he was singing ‘Sunshine On My Shoulders’ on one of his TV specials when I first put together the name and face with the songs I had been loving for years. From that moment on, he and his music have owned a special little corner of my heart.

Happy Birthday. I loved all his songs. Many were favorites, some that were not smash hits. If you could hear a piece of heaven – it would be John Denver singing or laughing or just making conversation. Far out!
