Duke Energy Florida Helps Customers go Green

By Kristen Bousquet | March 29, 2017

The following is a guest post from our friends at Duke Energy Florida.

Duke Energy is one of the country’s largest electric utilities, providing power to more than 9.1 million Americans. The task comes with responsibility, like ensuring the company is not only meeting customer needs, but doing so in the most efficient and reliable way. It’s important the company delivers energy safely, for both people and the environment. As a result, Duke Energy is always planning for the future and looking for sustainable ways to become more environmentally responsible.

Arbor Day Foundation’s Energy-Saving Trees program was a great fit with the company’s goals. Duke Energy Florida discovered a way to engage with customers while benefiting homeowners and the communities we serve.  So, to celebrate Arbor Day in Florida, Duke Energy Florida and the Florida Forest Service partnered together to participate in the Energy-Saving Trees program.

Through Energy-Saving Trees, Duke Energy customers signed up for a free tree to plant on their properties. Each tree was delivered to the customer’s home with planting and care instructions. The right tree in the right place can save homeowners as much as 20% on their energy bills. Not only are Duke Energy customers saving money, but they’re adding value to their property and breathing cleaner air with the simple act of planting a tree. But it doesn’t stop there.

These trees are part of the city’s broader tree canopy. The 2,200 trees Duke Energy Florida gave away will help keep the city cool, prevent stormwater runoff, beautify neighborhoods, and make people happy. Studies have shown that people are happier when they live in greener neighborhoods. There is less crime in neighborhoods with trees, keeping neighbors safe and encouraging them to interact with one another and spend more time outdoors.

Duke Energy Florida is continuously striving for greener ways to practice business. Visit Energy-Saving Trees to see what the program can do for you.

Hello Karin, thanks for your comments. Since launching this free tree give-away with Duke Energy Florida in January of this year, the program has since sold out. We have since shipped nearly 2,200 trees directly to home owners in participating areas. If you are interested in joining the wait list (should free trees become available again through our partnership with Duke Energy Florida), you can certainly do so at this link: arborday.org/dukeenergy.

Hi Ken! Thanks for your interest in our Energy Saving Trees program (through Duke Energy Florida). At this point, we have sold out of the trees which were being given away through Duke Energy Florida. This program launched in January of this year. As well, the trees are being shipped directly to the participants. If you have signed up for a tree, and have not yet received your order, we would be more than happy to look into this for you. Simply call our Member Services department toll free at 888-448-7337. If however, you were unable to participate this spring, we would encourage you to still visit our website, and join our wait list: arborday.org/dukenergy We will be sure to email you, in the event that trees become available again through our partnership with Duke Energy Florida.
